I honour my homeland: Caracas, extending over the valleys of Waraira Repano (El Ávila) Mount.

I honour the land where I live today: ancestral, traditional and unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples.

Hi, I’m María Julieta

I’m a psychoanalyst based in the vibrant city of Vancouver, Canada. My practice is deeply steeped in the timeless traditions of psychoanalysis. But my approach to therapy isn’t orthodox. I infuse my therapeutic work with the magic of artistic creation and literary research. In this blend passion meets poetry while the senses dance with serene awareness.

My personal quest began in adolescence when sadness led me to the teachings of Buddha. Over the years, I embarked on an exploration that took me from Afro-Caribbean spirituality to Advaita Vedanta, a nondual branch of Hinduism. The interconnection across these realms enhances both my personal experience and psychoanalytic practice.

What truly distinguishes me is my commitment to a holistic approach: I’m here to accompany you through an authentic and profound inquiry of your distress, tracing it back to its origins. I wield an array of therapeutic tools that are tried and true, honed over generations to uncover the truths hidden in the recesses of the unconscious mind.

In our sessions, you aren't just a "patient" in the conventional sense; instead, you become an active participant in your own analysis.

Have you noticed how powerful the word patient is? Its etymology, stemming from the Latin patiens, means "to endure" or "to suffer." In embracing this word's roots, we recognize that healing often involves a courageous endurance of one's struggles and a willingness to confront the depths of one's suffering. In this way, we go beyond coping mechanisms and strategies designed to adapt ourselves to afflicting circumstances. We take the leap toward transforming distress into self-knowledge and inner strength.

This is no commonplace talk-therapy. It's a journey into the very heart of your being employing a comprehensive approach to the psychoanalytic method. The encounters we share will open the doors to healing and release.

Truth arises when we listen to the rhythms of the unconscious; endless possibilities unfold.

Now, isn’t that worth the effort?
